The Process

Joanna Migdal believes that ideas form in the space between the client and the artist. Once she has an understanding of the client's preferences and the layout of the site, she begins experiments on a small scale with paper and card until she arrives at one or more designs that she feels will reflect "the genius of the place". Once approved, she translates the chosen idea into a full-scale mock-up, perhaps in wood or card, or for larger sculptures, perhaps in steel. This is to make certain that the design, scale and proportion is right and that the client is wholly happy with what is proposed. Only then will she cut expensive metal or stone.
